I’m a year shy of 50! Yes. In this short span of time, I’ve had my share of broken relationships, thankfully I can count them on one hand but they were devastating nevertheless. There are no regrets, thankful that I’ve gained wisdom, knowledge and strength. though every now and then I must admit to feelings of sadness.
I’ve just completed watching Tyler Perry’s movie “Daddy’s Little Girls”. This must be my 6th time watching it. For the first time, I paid attention to how Gabrielle Union’s character Julia handled the breakup with Idris Alba’s character Monty when she thought he had lied to her about his past: her two best friends surrounded her with love, held her hand, and comforted her. This made me wonder at not only how does a broken heart heal?
More importantly, how do men deal with a breakup? This society has socialized men into “sucking it up”, don’t shed any tears with your boys, basically act as if your heart is not breaking!!
I’m not even going to try to answer my own question. I would love to hear from anybody especially the men. In the meantime, here’s some music to go with this note:
