On being single…
…. ain’t nothing wrong with it.
As the holidays approach pay no mind to articles or radio talk shows or conversations that attach a stigma to being single. I repeat ain’t nothing wrong with you or me.
Enjoy whatever your status. If you ain’t happy with what that status might be then it’s time for a change if that’s what you want.
The focus seems to especially be on women. Why are there so many? The reality is, is that there are single men out there too who are tired of mediocrity just like the single women.
Settling is no longer an option. It’s not a matter of being picky but more a matter of your preferences. If you like pistachio ice cream, then strawberry flavored ice cream won’t do. It’s a matter of choice. Don’t let anyone dictate what that choice is because you have to live with it.
I could list here what I like in a man but that’s not the issue. What is important is that “ain’t nothing wrong with being single.” That knowledge and wisdom come from living life as long as I have. First love to yourself & be good to yourself. The rest will follow!
You wanna know what’s hilarious? I was walking to my office (minding my own business, smiling at such a pleasant day) after I got off the metro when someone from across the street shouted at me and waved. So, I waved back. He was on a bike & crossed the street to where I was walking.
He was an older gentleman, pleasant, and handed me his card. He was a photographer. (I was wearing a jeans outfit with sneakers).
He said “pardon me, just keeping it real, but you are gorgeous. Has anyone ever just stopped and handed you his card and told you that?” I said as a matter of fact, he was the 3rd man to do so. He asked if I was single. I responded that I was.
He then said to me, “Well, I have to keep it real, but I have several girlfriends so I’m not single, just being real with you. But it would be great if you could call me. Take a look at my website.” We both laughed and he then rode off on his merry way.
For those who may be curious, he was of another race. Ain’t nothing wrong with it…that’s just the way it’s been lately considering where I live & where I work. But I know what I prefer…
Whooo hooo, thanks Lord for his transparency and honesty however it comes. This day is starting off excellently especially since I appreciate my own “single-ness.”
