God’s Exceeding Greatness!

How majestic He is, the universe reflects His magnificence, His brilliance, His radiance!

Nothing can compare in beauty to Yahweh, whether the heights of Mount Everest in the Himalayas, or the deepest depths of the Mariana Trench beneath the western Pacific Ocean. Not even the longest lake in the world located in East Africa, Lake Tanganyika can compare to our Wonderful Counselor and Friend!

He is insurmountable, unsurpassable (unparalleled and unrivaled, not able to be exceeded in quality or degree), and indescribable…. beyond words!

I stand in awe…. breathless! I stare at the wonder of His creation – the heavens above with limitless skies filled with innumerable stars and constellations – Arcturus, Orion, Pleiades – to name a few. (Job 9:9 and Job 38:32.)

Not even the deafening roars of the loudest of waterfalls, the Augrabies in South Africa, can drown out the still small Voice of Almighty God

1 Chronicles 29:11 – “Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.”

It is encouraging to know that the enormity of God does not prevent Him from desiring fellowship with us. He is not standoffish. Our Magnanimous Father desires to commune with us. Yes, He does.

In fact, after God gave to Moses the two tablets on which He had written the commandments, the people heard God’s great voice. Moses reminded them in Deuteronomy 5:24, “And ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.”

But instead of drawing closer to God in intimacy, they told Moses that they would rather he went to God on their behalf. In verse 25 the people said to Moses, “Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, then we shall die.”

Excuses, excuses. In the previous verse, they were not consumed by any fire, they had seen and heard God personally and that God existed. They chose fear rather than a closer walk with God, heart to heart, and face to face, which is what Moses chose.

So did Joshua as we see in Exodus 33:11, “And the Lord spake unto Moses, face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.”

O! To be a friend of God, to hear His Voice and to see Him face to face, in worship and adoration, lingering in His Presence!

Like Nehemiah who was committed to rebuilding the temple, God wants us to come to Him, and to ask of Him, to spare us according to the greatness of His mercy. (Nehemiah 13:22).

Like David in Psalm 66:3, we can say unto God, “How awesome are you in your works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.

In Psalm 145:3 and Psalm 150:2, we can praise Him because his greatness is unsearchable; we can praise Him according to his excellent greatness.

Isaiah 40:26 encourages us to, “Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.”

God is exceeding in His Greatness. How cool is that.

Ephesians 1:19, “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.”

Jesus’ love beckons to you, whosoever. If you are weary, worn, sad, tired, Come. He promises in Matthew 11:28-30,

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
