Have you heard the saying “I will forgive you, but I will never forget? I have, from the lips of someone I may have wronged, but more often I have heard it due to conversations around me.
Many people say, do not judge me, only God can judge me. He loves me and He forgives me. He throws my sins into the sea of forgetfulness to be remembered no more. This is true and there are tens, maybe tons of scriptures where God says he will forget our iniquities, our sins, our weaknesses, provided we amend our ways and doings, cleanse our ways, humble ourselves, pray, seek His face and turn from our wicked ways. He promises to hear us, forgive our sins and heal our land.
Additionally, the Lord implores us to not to forget His Law, His word. We are to hide it in our hearts, so we won’t sin against Him, to put it always before our eyes, bind it on our foreheads, and to teach our children and the future generations.
Hebrews 8:11 – 12 states, 11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
Here is a wonderful scripture that is too often overlooked. Check this out in the very last book of the Holy Bible, in Revelation 18:5: For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
Whoa!?!
Does God actually remember our iniquities?
Absolutely…. when we refuse to acknowledge that we are sinners, when we disobey and rebel against God, the Creator of the whole earth and Owner of all things, resources, and all they that dwell therein.
The wonderful thing about our Abba is that He made a way of escape for each of us through Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, the Life, the Light!
I am so glad that once we repent of our sins and confess, with our mouths, accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, He tells us to go and sin no more. Go on our journey and walk in righteousness and holiness.
But sometimes we hold ourselves hostage to our past, holding grudges and unforgiveness against others or against ourselves. Yet God says:
FORGET ABOUT IT.
The Lord, the King of kings, ruler of the universe is saying to you, saying to me – Behold, I am doing a new thing, shall you not know it? (Isaiah 43:19)
Lord, did you say to FORGET my past? Is such a thing possible??
Yup, If Paul who was a murderer could say with all confidence in Philippians 3:13 – 14, …. but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.….
Go ahead, I dare you. Walk into your future by shutting the door to your past!
You can’t change it, so FORGET ABOUT IT!
Stop replaying that script over and over and over in your head. Stop rewinding the reel of film in your mind of days long gone. Stop reliving scenes of past hurts and regrets and failures. Stop holding yourself hostage.
You have God’s permission. Slam that door shut!
It’s your choice. Now walk through the open doors despite the enemies.
1 Corinthians 16:9 “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.”
Effectual. Wow!
The Greek word used here by Paul is en-er-gace` which means active, operative, powerful!
God has set before you open doors. That means you can’t lose.
What are you waiting for?
Revelation 3:8 “…. behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.”
Bye, bye past.
I got on my new walking shoes. From henceforth, eat my dust!
