I am not my trauma; I am so over it!

I am already over the traumas of my past, whether child abuse, domestic violence, drug abuse by a spouse, alcoholism, divorce, abandonment, rape of a loved one, raising my children as a Single Parent, death of a parent, coping with dementia of a parent, and more recently in the past 8 years in my late 50s and now mid 60s – being laid off, not just once but three separate times, December 2018, October 2023, and more recently November 2025!

Can a sister catch a break?? Yeah, I have exhaled and inhaled, and exhaled and inhaled again, and again, and again!!!

I fall down and get back up. I cry many tears, dry my eyes and come what may, I put up my dukes, ready for the next boxing match, ready for the punches, ready for battle.

I am much like the Weeble, a toy created in 1971, egg-shaped, with a weighted bottom that always, ALWAYS, returns to an upright position when pushed. There is nothing fragile about me, not like Humpty Dumpty whose eggshell shattered into pieces, never to be put together again, not even by the king.

My King is greater than all others.

Maybe it’s just me, but lately I am literally drained by speakers (men and women) on social media platforms whose main topic seems to be women’s trauma, as if this is the only topic that will gain them followers.

Enough already. I said it.

My trauma is over. I am no longer in the ER. No longer in Surgery. No longer in Recovery. Discharge papers are in hand, I am following instructions, and I am walking in healing, whatever that looks like for me.

It’s okay for others to disagree with me when I discuss moving past trauma, but I am not focused on winning popularity contests, gaining likes, comments, shares or followers.

My pet peeve is with speakers, who – the moment they meet you, all they want to talk about is women’s trauma. WHY? Why are they stuck on my past?

If I say that I am healed from it, then why not believe it? I have moved on, I love the space I am in, with no bitterness, and no regrets. It’s my fact and my living reality.

My healing journey does not erase the reality of certain social constructs that are deeply embedded in daily living (poverty, racism, greed, etc.)

We live in a world where each of us has experienced pain. No one is exempt regardless of where we live or what we look like.

Let’s talk about the Mercies of God that brought us through. Let’s talk about Healing after Brokenness.

Let’s talk about wholeness, laughter, joy, peace!

Recognize each person heals differently from trauma. Some take a shorter time to heal, others longer.

Let go of the past, not that we forget or pretend it never happened. No, we choose to not let it break us, or keep us stagnant in murky waters.

We choose to no longer believe Satan’s lies of being no good, of being worthless.

Embrace the strides you’ve made, how much stronger you are. Celebrate both the hills and valleys, storms, rains, fire. Celebrate your brilliance and keep soaking in God’s love and blessings.

Make new memories. Move on from the past. Move on from trauma! Your body and psyche have memory muscles, so if you remain “stuck” on the trauma with no new experiences, your body, mind and spirit will respond accordingly.

Recognize that you are created in God’s Image and Likeness, endowed with His intrinsic value, more precious than money, precious jewels or any other natural resources.

You are Chosen. You have Purpose. You are Loved!
